Louisiana Institute of Swamp Epistemology

Advancing the understanding of wetland ecosystems through interdisciplinary research, education, and community engagement since 2026.

About LISE

The Louisiana Institute of Swamp Epistemology (LISE), established in 2026, is a premier research institution dedicated to the study of wetland ecosystems and their complex relationships with human knowledge systems.

Located in the heart of Louisiana's unique wetland environments, our institute brings together ecologists, philosophers, indigenous knowledge holders, and environmental scientists to explore how we come to know and understand swamp ecosystems.

Our work challenges traditional boundaries between scientific and local knowledge, creating new frameworks for environmental understanding that are both rigorous and respectful of diverse ways of knowing.
